Through the study of early environments, maternal and paternal physical health and genetics, The ORIGINS Project aims to build a research platform to enable world class investigations into when and why NCDs develop
This information sheet details what will happen in the next stage of the study – when you give birth and before you are discharged from hospital.
When you get home today
Please put your colostrum and meconium collection packs into your hospital bag so they are not forgotten. Please don’t bring your esky into hospital.
At the onset of labour
Please send a text message with your name to 0415 556 955 so that can our staff can prepare for your baby’s birth (even if the onset of labour is in the middle of the night!).
After the birth and once you have been moved from the birth suite to your ward, please leave another text message on the same mobile 0415 556 955 at your earliest convenience to let us know your baby has arrived. In this text please state:

For overnight deliveries, this text will be looked at in the morning.
Please collect your colostrum and meconium samples, complete the request form & labels and give them IMMEDIATELY to the nearest midwife.
One of our staff members will then call you to arrange a visit in your room. You will sign consent forms for your baby to be in involved in ORIGINS and take you and your baby to complete the PeaPod measurements.
Where possible, we will collect a saliva sample from your baby, and a saliva and cheek swab from your partner (if they have consented to the Project).
We will give you your sample home collection packs and explain what and when will need to be collected.
