The ultimate goal of The ORIGINS Project is to reduce the rising epidemic of non-communicable diseases through 'a healthy start to life'.
As well as ORIGINS long-term core research, there are a number of clinical trials, early interventions and shorter-term research studies that sit within ORIGINS. Known as sub-projects, these studies look at multiple aspects of child and family health and development.
The ORIGINS Project provides researchers, students, clinicians and universities with a unique opportunity to play a crucial role in changing the health of future generations.
The ORIGINS Project's Director Professor Desiree Silva, head of paediatrics at Joondalup Health Campus, has been involved in the promotion of the world’s first Thrive by Five TED talk.
Minderoo Foundation has partnered with TED to showcase Thrive by Five’s global mission to raise awareness of the importance of the first five years of a child’s brain development. The TED talk is being shown in pre-launch trials, along with Professor Silva's introduction, to new parents at Joondalup Health Campus, as well as three maternity hospitals in Kabul, Afghanistan.
The TED Talk is bringing global attention to the critical importance of brain development in the first five years of a child’s life. In the video, seven-year-old Molly makes a captivating pitch to parents, grandparents, caregivers and the wider community to engage more meaningfully and often with children in order to promote their brain development and set them up for life.
